President Obama, you included a raise of the Federal Minimum Wage to $9.50 an hour as part of your economic plan. This should become an immediate priority, as well as raising the minimum wage for tipped employees from $2.13.
The Minimum Wage value has eroded (should be $10.55). At current $7.25 per hour assuming a 40-hour workweek, the annual salary is below poverty level for even a small family of 3 or more. Companies receiving public funds or contracts should be required to adopt a Living Wage specific to region to qualify for subsidy.
