Restore Responsibility and Truthfulness in Media

Created by K.W. on October 26, 2011

Over the last few decades America seems to have largely lost its proud tradition of responsibility and truthfulness in broadcasting and in print media. Indeed, journalistic giants like Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite would scarcely recognize today's media as 'journalism.'

We propose:
1. Opinions expressed on TV/Cable news broadcasts or purported news programming must carry a constant onscreen disclaimer stating that the material presented is opinion and not fact.
2. LIkewise, opinions expressed on radio must carry similar disclaimers aired before and after each commercial break.
3. News reporters across all media must clarify known facts on an issue, not simply report what 'some say' or 'critics contend'...the reporter must clarify known fact from fiction for the audience.
