Guns have always been argued around that they either help the citizens protect themselves and their families or just makes criminals and psychopaths better armed and they are both true, but that doesn't mean we should loosen up on guns or take them or make them harder to get. Rather than focusing on the guns themselves, we should restrict the additions to the weapon that make them an effective weapon. For example; instead of a rifle having 30 rounds in a magazine, have a 20 round or 10 for civilians and maybe up the price of the standard 30 round. This reduces the guns overall performance, but it doesn't change the actual functionality of it being a weapon for defense, while still limiting the power that criminals can have.
