What are the goals of public education? Building a nation of good test-takers? Of memorizers who forget? Of workers instead of creators?
The recurring question I hear in school is, "What do I need to pass so I can get on with life?" Standards need to rise, but not for the students. Schools need to be an inspiration.
Humans learn more from failure than from any teacher. Yet, the grading system effectively destroys the motivation of millions of children.
And with the internet, we have so much opportunity to empower students. The data for anything we may be curious about exists there.
Kids need experience navigating and exploring and filtering through this massive quantity of information, so they know *how* to learn.
The goals are to stimulate, enable, and empower our students.
