It is a simple concept. The penny costs more to make then it is worth itself. Pennies are rarely used as legal tender. For example you cannot use pennies in any vending machines or parking meters and you cannot buy things with pennies alone. Countries like Canada have gotten rid of their version of pennies and it has save them money and not effected the economy in a negative way. Its simple, retire the penny.
