Retract the Special Leave for Gay Marriage Travel

Created by K.H. on August 20, 2013

On 19 Aug 13 Defense Secretary Hagel announced that "gay and lesbian members of the military who wish to marry now qualify for 10 days of uncharged leave to travel to a state where such marriages are legal."

How is this equality? LGBT members have already been afforded the same rights/entitlements as other military members, why are they now given special treatment above the rest of the military? 10 uncharged days of leave equates to 1/3 of a months pay. If this is to hold ground then it should be afforded to all military members that wish to get married equally, not just gay and lesbian members.

This policy needs to be ammended by either elimination or approval for all military members. This smells of politics and lobby interests and pandering to 2% of the military population.
