WHEREAS: Wolves occupy only a fraction of their historic range.
WHEREAS: State Agencies have proven ineffectual in wolf management strategies, caving to hostile anti-wolf attitudes by allowing extreme killing methods such as the indiscriminate use of steel-jawed leg-hold traps, baiting, and dog packs.
WHEREAS: Wolf populations are still recovering in many states, and removing federal protections too soon would deliver another disastrous blow to these fragile populations.
THEREFORE: It is premature to remove them from federal protection as evidence has shown that state management does not bode well for this iconic and essential species.
THEREFORE: We ask the Obama Administration to ensure the safety of the wolf for the next decade, by reinstating federal protections.
