The Department of Education used to run the schools we provide for our military's children. They ran an excellent school system. The teachers did not "teach to the test" and the children's scores were well above the national average. The Department of Defense took over the schools and created an expensive, ineffective, educational bureaucracy. Meanwhile, the schools have gone down hill. Teachers spend their time on bureaucratic paper work and teach to the test. Scores have improved, but the quality of the education has diminished. Student do not do as well integrating back into regular civilian classrooms. We need to return the DODEA schools back to the Dept. of Education.
