Our laws allow citizens to fight and die in combat, get married, vote, sign and agree to legally binding contracts by the age of 18.
However, they are not legally allowed to have a beer in a bar with fellow military, drink the champagne toast at their own wedding (depending on the state), or stop on the way home from work to buy a bottle of wine to enjoy in the privacy of their own house. Not until they are 21 years of age.
Plus, the negative effect this mandate has has on the health and safety of our college-age young adults is immeasurable; due to the manner in which it takes inexperienced drinking behaviors out of the public eye and into dangerous social environments that encourage binge drinking and prevent responsible adult oversight.
