Return to pre-American civil war practices of natural burials eliminating carbon emissions& conserving the environment.

Created by R.H. on April 19, 2014

By partaking in a green funeral you can save a life by eliminating the toxins involved in embalming or eventually change the world by reduction of carbon emissions. In Green burials there is no vault or monument to buy, nor embalming to pay for, and the coffins or shrouds used are generally more affordable than coffins used in conventional burials. . We are in need of a better alternative to contemporary funerals as they use many resources, which are consumed, place back into the soil and are not biodegradable. Over 100,000 tons of steel are used in caskets and vaults, which is equivalent to enough metal to rebuild the entire Golden Gate Bridge every year! 800,000 gallons of embalming fluid, which contain high amounts of formaldehyde and other toxic chemicals, are used in embalming.
