Whereas, the U.S. has identified North Korea (NK) as the responsible party for the attack on Sony when the publicly available evidence conflicts with that charge, including:
- linguistic analysis shows that the hackers native language was likely Russian, not Korean
- the C2 infrastructure used in the attack is open to all
- the Korean keyboard settings may be changed to any language
- the hardcoded paths/passwords point to an insider
- this is not the M.O. of past State attacks
- according to the Washington Post, of all the nations that NSA monitors, NK is the “most opaque”
Therefore, in order to avoid setting a precedent that may lead to worse attacks and intelligence failures in the future, we ask that you release all evidence for review by independent experts.
