President Obama recently voiced his support for the position of UK Prime Minister Cameron, calling for a requirement for "backdoors" allowing the government access to private, encrypted data of users of Apple and Android mobile devices, Facebook and other computers and computer applications. This is a very bad idea.
Not only does it violate the rights of Americans to privacy of their personal data, but it shows terrible ignorance of how security works on such apps and devices. There is no such thing as providing a backdoor to defeat encryption that only the "good guys" can use. Criminals and hostile foreign governments and terrorists will be able to access devices and apps with the very same backdoor.
Keep user data private and in the control of the users.
