The members of UNESCO voted overwhelmingly (107 in favor, 14 opposed, 52 abstaining) to admit Palestine into that organization. That the Administration would revoke funding of UNESCO after such a vote is undemocratic. It makes America look as if we do not support ideals of liberty and democracy for others that we hold dear for ourselves. And it will damage our reputation in the world and in the Middle East. The same old approach to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process has been shown for years not to be working - and this move is part and parcel of that same old approach. We strongly urge the Administration to try a new approach and to initiate that change by reversing its decision to defund UNESCO.
