Currently, the drug Levonorgestrel (Plan B) is sold over the counter (without a prescription) to people over the age of 17. The FDA, after evaluation of safety data, recommended it to be made over the counter to everyone. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius over ruled the FDA and said Plan B can not be sold to people under the age 17 since it hadn't been tested in 11 years olds. This is absurd. It is legal for 16 year olds to have sex in many states (but of course not recommended!) but they are not allowed access to an effective method emergency contraception. President Obama should support the FDA's decision and put science ahead of politics.
