Mr. President,
As an educator, you know that the lessons taught in class are more than just the lectures presented by the professor. You know that by interacting with each other, students learn such values as teamwork, civil and respectful debate, and mutual respect. Values that we as Americans hold dear, and values that many around the world also share.
However, current United States policy is teaching a far different lesson to the world’s students. By including Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) within the definition of services which cannot be provided to citizens of sanctioned nations, America sends a message that these values are not universal, and that America will decide which of the world’s citizens can participate and which cannot.
School is in session. What will the lesson be?
