In June 2013, the U.S. International Trade Commission banned the sale of several models of Apple Inc.'s older iPhone and iPad models because they were found to infringe upon Samsung Electronics Co.'s patent for encoding mobile communications. In vetoing this ban early August, the Obama administration unfairly intervened in an established process of protecting patents and punishing those who infringe upon them.
