The phrase E Pluribus Unum has been used on United States coinage and paper money since 1795 and symbolizes the importance of those of us who are citizens or potential citizens of the United States becoming one people despite our cultural background. It is a much more adept description of the pluralistic society in which we live and emphasizes our unity in spite of our differences as opposed to our current national motto.
I call on the United States Congress to emphasize the importance of our coming together as Americans despite our background.
