The filibuster is a procedure that allows a member of the United States Senate to stall debate in order to delay or even prevent a vote on a legislative proposal. To prevent a filibuster and to proceed to voting on a bill, the majority party must have a 60 vote majority.
Filibuster rules have in the past required the lone obstructionist to be physically present on the Senate floor and occupy the proceedings.
Current rules allow obstructionists to filibuster simply by picking up the phone the evening before a vote and declaring a filibuster with a voice message.
Put an end to ridiculously harmful obstruction. Use the constitutional/nuclear option if necessary. If you don't like a bill, then stand up and debate the damn thing and then vote Yes or No.
