The process for the Social Security Disability Evaluation Hearing, once you have used the first two claims and have to go through a third, requires a hearing with a Judge and you need to hire a Lawyer for it. In our case, we were told that this hearing could take anywhere from 18 to 24 month's! In addition, the Lawyer fees are about 25% to 30% of the TOTAL lump sum that the claimant receives, when the disability is approved and a back payment is required. Loss of income due to loss of employment because of the incapacity, increases the stress and despair of the household and since the process takes so long, even losing your home. It is a desperate situation. Could it be revised and the waiting period shortened? Perhaps to 6 month's or less? Thank you.
