This petition is calling for an executive review process for such congressional appointments. It need not have power to overturn decisions, as that would be against proper checks and balances, but should be able to influence public opinion and apply pressure.
Senator Ted Cruz is against Science and all that it stands for. He has a very clear history of being a climate-change denier in the face of empirical evidence. He has mis-represented countless scientific studies. I believe we the people deserve better leadership when it comes to running these critical aspects of the nation. Put simply, the Space, Science, and Competitiveness subcommittee should be run by the Senators and Congressman who understand Science in the most comprehensive terms. Maybe even require a masters degree!
