Review the Classification of Marihuana as a Schedule 1 Drug Under the Controlled Substances Act

Created by P.C. on July 27, 2013

The Federal Controlled Substances Act provides for review of classifications by the executive branch and reclassification. Marihuana now is in Schedule 1 with true hard drugs which are prohibited, rather than regulated. Review is likely to result in reclassification which would significantly reduce the conflict with state laws legalizing medical or recreational use, reduce the expense of prosecution and incarceration of users, and permit government units to realize income from what is now an expensive and futile effort to eliminate its use. It would also stop or substantially reduce the cash flowing to drug dealers and impact associated violence.
