US Embassies employee some US Citizens. Why are Foreign Service Officers, Civil Service Employees, and American Family Members accompanying these employees, paid at a much higher rate than locally employed US Citizens living in the host country? The locally hired US Citizens generally are paid US Minimum wage for actual hours worked, and their sick, vacation, and holiday pay is at the lower local wage level. They are not civil servants, have no federal retirement benefits, home leave, housing, etc. Yet they are subject to US Federal Income Tax and Social Security deductions. Some of these local hires are US Veterans. We respectfully ask the Obama Administration to research this matter to see if it is as it appears, discriminatory in nature.
