More than 3 million individuals in the United States are allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, or both according to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. A study conducted by the CDC and NCHS report that four out every 100 American children are now being born with food allergies. When these Americans who are affected by food allergies reach the age required to join the military, under 21 percent will have outgrown their allergies according to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. Our current medical standards used by the military at MEPS deny these Americans the privilege and honor of serving their country. With technology having progressed as far as it has, peanut free Meals Ready to Eat and Peanut safe dining halls would be reasonable accommodations.
