Review safe recommendations for nurse to patient ratios in long term care skilled nursing facilities.

Created by S.F. on March 23, 2014

In an acute care setting or hospital most states recommend a 1:5 nurse patient ratio. There are no recommendations for nurse patient ratios in long term care. This setting usually has a 1:25 ratio at a minimum. This leaves too little time to accurately assess each patient leading to missed symptoms resulting in rehospitalizations. We need safer standards in this area.
