Imagine that you are head of admissions at a prestigious university and there are two applications for the last seat. One applicant is Caucasian and the other is a minority student. Both applicants are capable for the seat, but affirmative action would lead most towards the minority student.
Affirmative action is an unnecessary and outdated component of our education process. When Kennedy created affirmative action in 1961, it was necessary, as minority students were not given a fair chance to be educated. Affirmative action acts as an advantage for minority students and should be removed so that the best candidates for the seat are chosen.
Presently, the need for affirmative action is gone. Instead, educators should focus on socioeconomic status as a determining factor for admissions.
