Stifling US policies on drilling and refining petroleum products are the cause of our massive dependence on foreign oil. Foreign oil is drilled and refined often without proper environmental protection regulations. It is then shipped long distances to the US, burning more fossil fuels and risking spillage disasters. Local production of oil will allow for US economic growth, more transparent regulation and corporate practices, as well as reduced environmental impact.
