HAMP is nightmare process. One item is the use of Gross pay as opposed to Net pay to calculate the new 31% of income payment if lucky enough to get approved for modify at all. For most people this only amounts to $60-$100 if that in pmt reduction. Better than nothing if your income got reduced by job loss etc however, People - we live by our net income not our gross before taxes the gross amount is NOT AVAILABLE as usable income-only the net (after payroll taxes) is what we have to use. This benefits the big banks like BOA right off the start giving them advantage to deny you qualify or need a modification - big help difference of a $50 reduction opposed to a $250- Changing this I believe would help a lot more people remain with a better payment they could handle.
