revise medicare rules and regulations to allow them to pay for light weight wheelchairs for people with disabilities.

Currently, Medicare rules don't allow them to pay for wheelchairs under 31 pounds. I have been in a chair for 33 years now, since the age of 7, and I'm concerned for my independence. Medicaid will pay for a light weight chair, but they are now not my primary insurance. Medicare is my primary and they, according to their own rules, don't care about the disabled once you step outside your own home. This is awful. My current chair is 10 years old and made of aluminum. My elbows, wrists, and shoulders are paying the price. The cost of a new chair is around $3500. Medicare would happily pay for a Hoverround because they have a lobbyist in congress. I do not. I am not alone. Hundreds, if not thousands of wheelchair users are being denied access to light weight chairs around the country.
