This petition is to revise the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), to remove sections 1021 and 1022 from Subtitle D-Counterterrorism.
These sections allow for the indefinite detainment of U.S. citizens without a trial.
Section 1021 subsection (a) grants the Armed Forces the authority to detain Citizens. Subsection (c) (1) also states that these people will be detained "without trial until the end of hostilities."
Section 1022 paragraph (1) also authorizes the detainment of persons and in Section 1022 paragraph (4) it is stated that the President may waive the requirements for eligibility of detainment.
The wording of this Act is very vague. For example, in Section 1021 subsection (b) (2) the word "belligerent" can be interpreted to mean just about anything.
