The objective of this petition is to change the highly controversial phrase of "under god" in the pledge of allegiance. While created for valid reasons of defying the communist state of the USSR, it unfortunately encourages the one religion system that is responsible for much of the homophobia in America, claiming that it is against the word of god, when in fact, god and the state have nothing in common. I am a practicing catholic in a rural area, and have discussed this proposition in detail, as I have many homosexual acquaintances who are constantly discriminated against. As a response, I have decided to edit out the under god clause in the pledge, which I believe is a wonderful way of restoring nationalism and depressing hatred. Under god -> bound to belief
