The President's Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition promotes vague concepts like being active and eating healthy rather than providing practical information on how to accomplish these goals. The Council's current recommendation that the majority of people "lift weights" is meaningless. The Council should promote basic concepts and methods for increasing muscle mass and strength like progressive overload and barbell exercises, which are supported by decades of empirical evidence. Information on safe form for exercises should be given. Likewise, the roles of calorie consumption and macronutrients in determining body composition should be clearly addressed. The way that food is related to fat gain and loss should be covered. Basic applicable exercise science should be clearly stated.
