Revise standardized tests for grades 6-11 to reflect student’s critical thinking rather than test taking abilities.

Standardized testing for grades 6-11 should be more focused on questions that invoke higher levels of thinking to replace the existing method of asking multiple choice questions. Question types such as free response questions (FRQ's) and Document based questions (DBQ's) that require more opened ended responses would encourage teachers to promote students to start thinking at more insightful levels, thus preparing students better for real life situations and for higher education i.e. college. Current versions of standardized testing include multiple subjects with multiple choice questions. The current version of the tests influence teachers to instruct students to focus more on memorization and test taking skills (such as eliminating wrong answers) rather than critical thinking.
