Title Nine was created as part of the Education Amendments of 1972 to increase the equality among men and women in collegiate sports. Since its creation women have gained more opportunities in collegiate sports. However several men's sports programs have been decreasing since the advent of this law. These sports include men's gymnastics, wrestling, swimming, diving, rowing, and other less popular sports. While these sports decrease in size, collegiate football and basketball continue to grow. Smaller programs are being cut to feign equality among the genders because instead of decreasing spending on the major sports (Football and Basketball) and giving it to female sports, colleges will just cut less popular men's sports and give the money to female sports.
