Amend the IRS Code of 1986 to allow a deduction for pet care expenses.
According to the 2007–2008 National Pet Owners Survey, 63 percent of United States households own a pet and the Human-Animal Bond has been shown to have positive effects upon people’s emotional and physical well-being. Additionally, the cost of pet care can be as high as the cost to care for a human dependent.
Allow a Maximum deduction of $3,500 per household, per year, for qualified expenses (including veterinary care) of qualified pets.
Qualify expenses do not include the money spent to acquire the pet and qualifying pets do not include livestock, service animals, or laboratory animals which are already covered as business and medical expenses under IRS Codes 162 and 213.
