The Office of Technology Assessment was created in 1972 by an act of Congress during the Nixon administration to provide the members of Congress the expertise they lacked when considering matters of science and technology. The OTA provided this much-needed expertise for 23 years before its funding was cut by Congress, even though its budget was relatively small.
Unfortunately, the result of this is we now have a Congress that is woefully uninformed when it comes to matters of science and technology such as, for example, global warming and encryption technology.
Therefore, we ask that Congress revive the OTA and restore its funding.
