On February 24, 2014 the Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni signed into law a bill that allows courts to sentence individuals to up to life in prison for being homosexual.
On February 25, 2014, a popular Ugandan newspaper, Red Pepper, published a list of 200 "known homosexuals", effectively beginning an anti-gay witch-hunt in the country. With a history of violent attacks and killings of gay-rights activists, as well as homosexuals, Uganda has only emboldened homophobes in the country to resort to violence in order to attack and marginalize gay people and their supporters.
The U.S. government currently sends approximately $400mil in aid yearly to the country of Uganda. Until the Ugandan government repeals this anti-human rights law, all aid to the country should be revoked.
