The College Board (CB) is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit. Despite this, they charge students exorbitant fees to take their tests ($50 for SAT, a $23.50 late fee, and $89 per AP exam). They also charge money to send test scores to schools, send financial aid info to schools, and for rush delivery.
In May 2011, a bipartisan group of lawmakers launched a congressional inquiry into the fact that the CB was selling students' contact info to colleges at 33¢ apiece.
In 2009, the CEO made $1.3 million and its executives made $300k. In 2006, the CB had $582.9 million of revenue but spent only $527.8 million, leaving a $55.1 million surplus.
While some students pay close $1k before entering college on CB services, the CB doesn't pay taxes. This needs to change. Revoke the non-profit status.
