revoke Columbus Day as a national holiday.

Created by J.Y. on October 16, 2014

Columbus Day is meant to celebrate someone that the nation's citizens can look up to and aspire to be. Christopher Columbus is not a suitable role-model for anyone in the United States. He conducted uncountable heinous activities when he landed in the Bahamas. His only goal was gold and spice. He found next to none of the latter, but Columbus enslaved hundreds of natives and forced them to provide him with gold. He and his men also spread disease that wiped out sections of the native communities.
