in 1984 Ronald Reagan abused the authority of the federal government by threatening local governments into enforcing a drinking age of no less than 21. Under this act any state that did not raise their drinking age to 21 would loose 10% of their highway budget.
This movement has put young adults at a serious disadvantage in the corporate world. college students performing internships are socially cast out when it comes to after-hour networking events, as well as socializing with their older peers.
The original fear of the drinking age being so low was due to high amounts of car accidents, which many other countries with an 18 year old drinking age do not have this issue. Overall this act should no longer be honored as it shows an unfair balance between the state and federal government
