The National Football League is organized for tax purposes as a 501(c)(6) organization under the Internal Revenue code. A 501(c)(6) organization exempts taxes from "business leagues, chambers of commerce, real estate boards, boards of trade, and professional football leagues (whether or not administering a pension fund for football players), which are not organized for profit."
Given its TV deals, Goodell's $27,000,000 salary, and plans to possibly expand to the UK, the NFL is clearly more interested in promoting the NFL brand and making a lot of money doing so. In fact, Goodell would like to increase NFL revenue to $27 billion by 2027, of which the NFL will pay nothing in taxes on all those revenues.
Let's revoke their tax-exempt status now. The MLB did in 2007 and is doing just fine.
