China has again exercised sovereign power to interpret HK’s Constitution where it sees fit. This 5th-time abuse is particularly alarming, for the goal is to bar 2 elected lawmakers from taking up seats (previously 6 others were banned from running altogether).
China having formed such habit of ruling HK by decree and intervening the HK legislature, the rule of law in HK, is now in dire jeopardy.
Its autonomy deteriorated to such extent, HK is now little different from China. Keeping the HK Policy Act will mislead US business interests into a false sense of security. With HK reduced to a mere puppet of China, the Act will also provide shelter for dubious interests in China to operate thru HK.
In order to protect US business interests, we plead that the HK Policy Act be revoked immediately.
