The Pledge of Allegiance was written in the 1890s by the socialist Francis Bellamy who wanted his brand of national socialism to take over the nation (Adolf Hitler was his biggest fan, adopting the original Pledge salute as that for his National Socialist Party-you know them as the Nazis).
If we must keep it, then it needs a SERIOUS rewrite: "I pledge allegiance to the Constitution of the United States of America, and to the Republic which it creates; one nation out of many states, (under God,) with liberty and justice for all."-note I the words I put in parentheses, making it up to the one reciting it whether or not to use it.
