The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act,NAGPRA, should be rewritten so that cultural affiliation is not determined by historical age alone. There should be genetic testing to conclusively prove any human remains found are of Native American descent before they can be claimed. With this current wording of the act there has been human remains found that have not been of Native American descent like Kennewick Man, human remains found and dated to 7000 B.C, that have been claimed by Native American tribes due to the age of the remains. When these remains get claimed then no further testing can be done to better understand the history of the colonization of America. There are parts of our nation's history that is becoming lost due to the incorrect wording of the act.
