Helium is a precious resource that has important applications in science, medicine, and industry. The US controls a large reserve of helium, but has poorly managed its stewardship and pricing.
According to the Government Accountability Office, the Bureau of Land Management has failed to implement important recommendations.
The US should implement policies that:
1) Preserve this ephemeral resource
2) Provide a source of helium to scientific research and medical applications at stable prices
3) Discourage waste and market cornering by industry and for-profit interests
