Safety Checks on Gun Applicants for a Safer Tomorrow.

This is a petition to ensure that federal standards are created and maintained for the ownership of firearms by responsible citizens of the US. "The right to bare arms" was written when automatic and semi-automatic weapons did not exist, so it is imperative that additional proper safety precautions be enacted to support today's firearms' market and keeping all citizens safe- including those who choose not to possess firearms.
Federal rules will include a set criteria for background checks as a minimum standard that all states must use, as well as a waiting period for review of applicants before any guns can be purchased by applicant. The background check must also require a basic psychological evaluation for anyone seeking to purchase semi-automatic or automatic weapons.
