We all know that it is currently extremely difficult, if not impossible to discharge student loan debt under current bankruptcy law. Coupled with the current economic climate and predatory for profit colleges, people who have legitimately tried to better themselves are stuck with loads of debt they are struggling to get out from under. Current programs offered by the banks are designed more to keep people indebted to them rather than paying down the loans.
What I would like to propose is that government backed lenders must provide complimentary job placement assistance to people struggling to make their payments to find a decent job. This would have the added benefit of creating more jobs within the lenders in addition to helping to tackle the growing student loan debt problem.
