We seek White House recognition for three iconic chefs who have created a giant footprint in the culinary industry. Chefs Leah Chase, Jefferson Evans and Loretta Barrett Oden have each made enormous contributions to American food history.
Since the 1940's, Mrs. Chase, "Queen of Creole Cuisine", has served all people regardless of race, including dignitaries. Mr. Evans was the first Black American to graduate from a formal culinary school. He has since trained and mentored countless others. A Native American, Chef Oden is the first person to educate the public about the health benefits of indigenous foods.
Striving against the odds, each chef has forged a pathway for diversity in the culinary industry that has benefitted their community, their country and the world.
