sanction and pressure the Government of Sudan until the release and exoneration of Mariam Yahya Ibrahim occurs.

Created by A.S. on May 16, 2014

We petition that the White House formally place sanctions on the Government of S. Sudan and demand the release of Mariam Ibrahim.

The actions of South Sudan are a clear violation of religious freedom, women's and human rights.

Ibrahim has been sentenced to death because her father, who was absent for much of her childhood, was Muslim and she is Christian. She was raised as a Christian by her mother and has since married a Christian man. She now faces death by hanging for apostasy, as well as flogging for an adulterous relationship with her Christian husband as the state refuses to recognize her marriage. She will be allowed to give birth to her child and raise it until the age of 2, then she will be executed. The state also has denied giving custody of their 20 month son to her husband.
