What if owners of assault weapons voluntarily donated them to be melted into a memorial for the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary? I think I'm feeling that there might be an enormous positive response by assault weapon owners, to contribute to something positive, rather than be judged hashly by our society. I am not an owner of any gun, but if I had an assault weapon, I'de want to donate the first one. The memorial would represent untold numbers of lives not taken. That might honor the dead and remind the living.
