Deny any requests by the country of Italy for the extradition of American citizen Amanda Knox.
Knox was convicted of the 2007 murder of British exchange student Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy. She spent 4 years in jail until 2011 when an appellate court overturned the original conviction. Knox was set free and she immediately returned home to Seattle. In American, that would be the end of the story.
Not in Italy. On January 30th, 2014 Knox was re-tried and convicted for the same crime. This trial violates Amanda Knox's 5th Amendment rights, and potentially her rights under Article 14.7 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Therefore, any extradition requests must be denied to protect Amanda Knox's Constitutional rights.
